I Might be a Tax Deduction!

Woohoo! Finally! Somebody’s thinking about us pets as people too! If you can have deductions for human kids, why not a deduction for those of us that walk on all fours too?

U.S. Representative Thaddeus McCotter introduced act H.R. 3501 on July 31st. It is also being referred to as the Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years (HAPPY) Act. If this passes it would allow pet owners to deduct up to $3500 from their taxable income for pet care expenses. Such pet care expenses would include most expenses connected to owning a pet, but would not include costs associated with buying the pet. Pets that would qualify are described as “a legally owned, domesticated, live animal”. To read more about this bill and track it’s status click here.

Hopefully this bill will pass so Mom can save a little money with the deduction. Hey Mom, I just thought of something to save you some money! How about I don’t go to the groomer’s or the vets anymore? You know I don’t like those places anyway. It’s a win-win for both of us!:0

  1. Hate to disappoint you Duke, but you’re still going to the vets & groomers. You’ve got a groomer’s appointment tomorrow and a vet appointment in 2 weeks. Love ya, Mom
