The Friendship APL is a private, independent, non-profit [501(c)(3)] humane society founded in Elyria, Ohio in 1957. We own and operate the largest animal shelter in Lorain County. We receive no government funding and depend on the generosity and financial support of friends and neighbors, and on various fundraisers, to serve the people and animals of Lorain County.
The Friendship APL does not euthanize pets based on time limits or to make space for other pets. We schedule incoming pets to make certain that we have room to house and care for the pets.
We screen and continually monitor pets for health and behavior problems. All pets receive one or more vaccinations, deworming, lab tests as required and a veterinary examination. We also spay or neuter all pets prior to adoption.
Our wonderful staff will help you select the proper pet for your family and lifestyle. They will also counsel people to prevent future problems.
