Meet Duke

DukeSeptember 11th of 2002 was the best day of my life! That’s the day that Mommy adopted me! I was two years old at the time, and was rescued from a kill shelter by Tri State Collie Rescue. They weren’t able to tell her much about me other than I was dumped off of a truck along side of the road. A very nice person saw what happened and picked me up and took me to the shelter. I was severely matted at the time and the rescue group had to shave me down. I looked a little dorky. It was quite embarrassing! Thankfully, Mom didn’t care that I looked like a dork. She was so happy to have me as part of her family. She said she wanted a Collie ever since she was a kid.

I’m thoroughly enjoying my life after the dumper people. At the time Mom brought me home, the only siblings I had were Brandy and Sunny (both felines). Sunny has since passed away. Brandy’s a good cat, and Frankie was recently added to the family. The two of them tend to keep to themselves which is fine by me. I like having my own personal space.

Speaking of personal space, Daisy doesn’t seem to understand that concept! She likes to be right up on you and do all that kissy stuff. I’m too macho for all of that! Over the years she’s softened me up though. I’ve come to understand that with Daisy’s deafness she finds comfort in being up against you. It’s her way of knowing that if I move, then she should pay attention because she may need to move too.

Then there’s Charm. Where do I even begin? He’s hyper, pushy and likes doing that kissy stuff too! I get exhausted just watching him. He wants me to play with him, but I just can’t keep up. I’m too old for that sort of stuff. Thankfully he figured that out and has stopped pestering me. He still tries to sneak in kisses, but I snarl at him when he does it. I really don’t mind the kisses, but I do have a rep to protect!

It’s December of 2011 when I write this post, and I’m 11 years old now. I have an enlarged liver, a heart murmur and my back legs aren’t working so well anymore. I’ve had two trips to the emergency room in the last four months. One of those trips was because of my legs, and the other trip was because I had a mild seizure. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be on this earth, but that’s okay. I’ve had a good life and I will leave here knowing that I was loved! Save me a spot Sunny, I’ll see you soon.

Duke passed away in August of 2012.
